ReElement Technologies and Novare Partner to Develop Africa’s First Rare Earth Elements Refinery

ReElement Technologies, a leading subsidiary of American Resources Corporation, and Novare, a large South Africa-based investment firm, have started a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to construct a progressive $100 million critical and rare earth elements refinery. This collaboration is a significant milestone in the development of Africa’s mineral processing capabilities. Moreover, it underscores the commitment to advancing the continent’s role in the global supply chain of Critical Minerals.

Under this partnership, ReElement will invest in its proprietary chromatographic, multi-mineral, multi-feedstock technology. To produce high-purity Lithium carbonate, Rare earth oxides, and other Critical Minerals. Furthermore, the company will provide comprehensive project management expertise. Meanwhile, Novare will contribute the necessary capital investment and operational oversight. Hence ensuring the facility’s efficient development. Construction is anticipated to commence in the second half of 2025.

This powerful collaboration represents a crucial move and a step toward establishing not only South Africa but Africa’s first critical and rare earth elements refining hub. The facility will primarily focus on producing high-purity elements that are indispensable for both commercial and defence sectors’ advanced technologies. According to a recent news release from ReElement, dated February 5, 2025, this initiative hopes to revolutionise the region’s mineral processing landscape.

Ben Kincaid, CEO of ReElement Technologies’ African unit, emphasised the importance of this partnership: “This partnership reflects our commitment to innovation in the Critical Minerals sector.” “Together with Novare, we are bringing innovative refining technology to the region. Enabling nations to enhance and capture the value of their natural resources and catalyse industrial economic development on the continent.” He added.

Olaotse Leepile, CEO of Novare Holdings, described the way he feels about this partnership, stating, “This partnership aligns seamlessly with our vision of being an impactful investor by establishing Sub-Saharan Africa’s first battery and Critical Minerals manufacturing facility.”
